x SuSE Linux 13.1-RELEASE x x SuSE Linux 13.1-RELEASEx ZGREP(1) General Commands Manual ZGREP(1) NAME zgrep - search possibly compressed files for a regular expression SYNOPSIS zgrep [ grep_options ] [ -e ] pattern filename... DESCRIPTION Zgrep invokes grep on compressed, xz'ed, lzma'ed, zstd'ed, bzip2'ed or gzipped files. All options specified are passed directly to grep. If no file is specified, then the standard input is decompressed if neces- sary and fed to grep. Otherwise the given files are uncompressed if necessary and fed to grep. If the GREP environment variable is set, zgrep uses it as the grep pro- gram to be invoked. EXIT STATUS Exit status is 0 for a match, 1 for no matches, and 2 if trouble. BUGS The following grep options are not supported: --dereference-recursive (-R), --directories (-d), --exclude, --exclude-from, --exclude-dir, --include, --null (-Z), --null-data (-z), and --recursive (-r).
